Aya Brackett was born and raised in a traditional Japanese house in Nevada City, California and is now based in San Francisco. She grew up with two wood stoves, a generator for electricity and a long dirt road. Aya studied at Brown University where she received a dual B.A. in Visual Arts and East Asian Studies, and also studied photography at Rhode Island School of Design and the California College of the Arts. For four years she worked as a photo editor at Dwell Magazine and contributed her own photography and styled food and props for many shoots. She was chosen as one of PDN's top 30 photographers in 2008. Her love of food and design informs her photography and fuels a constant search for the unusual and inspiring.
