“Soiled” Photo Show in Tokyo – 2 Locations in May

I'm very excited to show my series "Soiled" at two locations in Tokyo starting May 1st. Most of the show will be at Rocket Gallery in Harajuku, May 2nd – 13th, and some pieces will be at the Daikanyama Tsutaya Bookstore May 1st -18th. I will also be selling at both locations limited edition, signed catalogues, each splattered or "soiled" with natural dyes. My good friend, Yuri Nomura, from Eatrip  Restaurant will be doing food for the opening on May 2nd!

American Photo Feature on “Pioneer” Photographers

I was honored to be featured in the May/June 2014 issue of American Photo Magazine in a story about photographers practicing an "unembellished, natural and refined" look of lifestyle photography. The article discusses how this new approach to food and lifestyle photography effects the established and also smaller independent magazines we have today. Click here to see the story.

Natural Egg Dyeing with Deepa Natarajan

My friend Deepa is a whiz with all things naturally dyed and I was delighted to photograph her while she dyed easter eggs with blueberries, tumeric, onion skins, purple cabbage, paprika, and beets.

Apartment Therapy’s Kitchn Interview

I spoke with Dana Velden of Apartment Therapy a little while back to discuss some thoughts on food photography. While some info was directed to the iphone food photographer, much of the approach is the same as with a professional camera. (And here is a photo of me in my kitchen with a case of bed head :/

Noodle story with my brother!

A story I shot about udon noodles for Sunset magazine just came out. It was especially fun because it was about my brother, Sylvan Mishima Brackett! We share so much in common about food and aesthetics and it was gratifying to collaborate on this story. And his noodles are amazing. He'll be opening an izakaya style restaurant in San Francisco this Fall. Stay tuned….
